The Adventures of Kyria: The Child of Prophecy Book Review - Clifford B. Bowyer's The Child of Prophecy Review by: Bookwire Book Reviews Silver Leaf Books, Holliston, MA, $5.99 US, paperback, (192p) ISBN: 0974435406
Life as a tween is no picnic: There's way too much school pressure, peer pressure, and family pressure. Twelve-year-old Kyria is no exception. The young heroine of The Adventures of Kyria: The Child of Prophecy is a typical kid from the small, mystical fishing village of Arkham. She is average in every way except one: “In a time of great darkness, when evil sweeps the land, a prophecy foretells the coming of a savior, a child that will defeat the forces of evil and save the world. She is Kyria, the Chosen One.”
In this first book of The Adventures of Kyria series, Kyria is unaware of the prophecy that shapes her destiny. After increasingly bizarre dreams about a pink elf and a visit from a Mage Master, Kyria’s reality begins to change.
At some point, what child doesn’t dream of a world sans grown-ups? For Kyria, however, a normal dream becomes chilling reality when a mysterious cloud falls over Arkham, and she finds herself at the core of a dark plot by an evil enemy. The once-peaceful adults in her village turn hateful and eventually disappear.
To save Arkham, Kyria and her friends set out on an action-packed journey that pits them against sea monsters and pirates, hobgoblins, and three-headed dragons.
Author Clifford Bowyer has created an intricate fantasy world and an equally involved plot for Kyria and her cohorts. With action and likeable supporting characters, Bowyer does an incredible job writing descriptive text, making for a fun adventure and an easy read. His imagination and sense of adventure are obvious throughout the entire novel. Parents will appreciate that Bowyer's protagonists value learning and take a positive approach to working together and solving problems.
Clifford Bower is also the author of the Fall of the Imperium Trilogy.
